Coconut's Fish Cafe in the heart of Phoenix’s Mayo Boulevard strip offers a casual, approachable take on Hawaiian-inspired seafood and American favorites. This restaurant strikes a balance between fast casual and a laid-back lunch spot, making it a convenient pit stop for a weekday meal or a relaxed weekend bite.

The atmosphere leans toward lively but unpretentious, with a steady flow of locals who seem to appreciate quick service without sacrificing quality. Families are a common sight, especially on Sundays when kids eat free, adding to a comfortable, community-oriented vibe. The staff tends to be friendly and attentive, providing a welcoming touch amid the upbeat tempo.

The menu is firmly rooted in fresh, island-influenced seafood with American comfort touches. Standouts include the fish tacos and poke bowls, both praised for their freshness and vibrant flavors. For those looking to sit down to a fill-me-up plate, the Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi and Coconut Shrimp stand out as solid choices, offering a nice balance of crispy, rich textures alongside lighter sides like steamed vegetables or a signature coconut milk coleslaw. The Fish & Chips here also gets consistent nods for flavor and crispness, making it a reliable option for anyone craving straightforward seafood fare.

While there are options for chicken or veggie burgers, the true draw is the expertly prepared seafood, from grilled mahi mahi to shrimp skewers and chowder soup. The cooking styles are varied, making it easy to find something that suits different tastes whether you’re after something grilled, breaded, or steamed.

Because of its location in a busy shopping area, the restaurant works well for quick takeout as much as for a casual dine-in experience. Those who’ve found their way here multiple times often note the consistency — the meals arrive as expected, fresh and nicely plated, keeping them coming back even if it means a bit of a drive.

Overall, Coconut’s Fish Cafe fits best for seafood lovers wanting an easygoing spot for a midday meal or early dinner with family or friends. Midday and early evening visits tend to be smoothest for service and seating, given its popularity among locals who rely on both the dine-in and takeout options. Expect a bright, informal setting where the focus stays on straightforward, well-executed aloha-style seafood without fluff.

Grilled mahi was wonderful, as you can see on photos, I finished the whole plate! My husband had the Ahi poke bowl and it was absolutely amazing as well. All food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Highly recommend!

I have been coming to the Maui Fish House for years. The food is always top-notch, and more importantly, consistent! I have had everything on the menu and it’s all good. They are known for their mahi mahi. One never has to wonder how the food is going to come out. It is always great! The other thing one will notice is all the employees are friendly and polite. They always great you with a smile , bring your order promptly and remove the dirty plates from the table quickly. Don’t walk, but run to the Maui fish house for the best seafood in town!!

This place is amazing. I live 20 miles away and I make sure I come here several times a month. I found Maui’s on the recommendation of a friend. I have tried poke bowls from across the valley and in several different states and this place is AMAZING. The service is always great. The shrimp is excellent. Amazing steamed veggies. The Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi is worth the drive and then some. My kids love the fried shrimp. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

We came on the evening of the grand opening of the newly renamed Maui Fish House. There was such a fun atmosphere, and the staff were all so kind. The Hawaiian food was delicious. I had coconut shrimp and the Maui Fish Tacos. I had never eaten here before, but I’m happy that I know about it now.

We came here for our Sunday dinner. It’s a pleasant surprise that kids eat free on Sundays. I got the Asian Flare style mahi-mahi seafood salad and the fish was very tender and had perfect wasabi flavor. The shrimps that came with it were also cooked perfectly. We also got a poke bowl and the tuna was fresh. My kid enjoyed the fish and chips and the fish tasted great, too. I’m glad although they changed the name from “coconut fish” the kept the same menu items. We will come back.

Coconut’s, now named Maui Fish Cafe, is some of the best fish you will EVER eat in your lifetime. Yes, it’s in Arizona, a state not known for its fish, however the owner’s Maui roots really come through at this place. The atmosphere is hip, the staff are efficient & friendly, and the fish is beyond tender and flavorful. Everything is so fresh and affordable, you can get a whole bunch of delicious fish for under $40. Get the Grilled Shrimp and Clam Chowder, you WON’T regret this delicious restaurant!! Glad to see they’re still serving delicious food under the new name ;)

New name, but same great food. We’ve been coming here for a couple years and it’s always been a great experience. Our son started eating here once he was baby-led weaning; he’s two now and loves the fish tacos. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming, even when our son is having more challenging days.
